An Introduction to Applying Holiness | To The Church

I don’t anticipate this being a long, thought out and researched piece. It’s just me, working through, praying through and trying to figure it all out.

I am not perfect, neither do I pretend to have all the answers to life’s endless questions. I do however, love, know and trust the One who does. I call Him Savior, Father, Friend.

I am not yet a parent, so I don’t always fully understand why parents do or say the things that they do. I don ‘t quite understand their methods of teaching or how we (children) are even supposed to apply all of what we’ve been given responsibility of.

As a child of God, I am constantly pondering His requirement of holiness. Hebrews 12:14 is always swirling around in my mind as I journey through life.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Hebrews 12:14 KJV

How do I consistently apply holiness at work, in relationships, in church and throughout every corner of my life? Surely God knew there’d be people that would treat me terribly, there’d be complicated situations, misunderstandings, lies told, peer pressure, exhaustion, anger and aggravation. Yet His requirement is the same; Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

In the spirit of full transparency, I don’t always have the fortitude to be this holy saint required of me. Truth is sometimes I don’t like some people, others I do not trust. I can be moody and agitated. I am an introvert and sometimes that means I just don’t want to be bothered. I am not always nice and kind and a lot of the time I’d rather be living on a farm in Kentucky by myself away from having to interact with people and be forced to play nice.

Every day I understand more the depth of God’s faithfulness as He does not require of us what He is unwilling to help us accomplish.

Holiness is a discipline to be practiced daily. It is a skill to be learned and embedded into our character. Holiness is the foundation of our new nature adopted by Christ when we receive His Spirit.

God’s requirement of holiness is a generous one as it is His desire to share the very essence of Himself with us.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

1 Peter 1:13-16

This week, more than usual, has shown me my necessity to persist to apply holiness. Being a believer is done in both word AND deed. Applying holiness enables us to be believers in our actions. Inevitably, we need Him to serve Him and He has so graciously availed Himself to assist us in our obedience and glorification of His name.

Applying holiness is an inexhaustible conversation for me, so rest assured that this is not the last time you will hear me speak about it. I am always seeking how to apply it and my desire is to ultimately share with others how to do the same.

Apart of focusing on the work this year [CLICK HERE TO READ MY 2020 THEME: FOCUS ON THE WORK] is taking a deep dive into what it means to apply holiness. So far God has been unfolding how He is requiring holiness from me through the fruit of temperance (are y’all praying for me? lol). So far I’ve experienced some success but I have also had to learn some lessons. As I said, it is a discipline to be practiced daily.

I honestly feel like the more I write the more I am being required to be honest. Not that I don’t want to share but I am careful to not share all of my business. I think as a body we all could benefit from more honesty. I am so grateful that the truth of my life and walk with Christ is a blessing to others. Thank you ALWAYS for reading!!!
