The Bible is Black History Book Review

DISCLAIMER: If you are on a quest of identity through biblical black history I STRONGLY suggest that you pray and sincerely ask The Holy Spirit to guide you. There is so much false doctrine and misinformation out there so you must be discerning and diligent about confirming what you find in scripture and in studying reputable sources. Although not infallible, The Bible is Black History is an excellent resource to add to your list of study tools.

Why did I choose this book?

I chose this book because since I was a child I was taught about my true heritage as an Israelite. As an adult I have continued to study and research scripture and other history books that told of our heritage. I chose this book because I am excited about the awareness that is coming to light of who we are and I want to continue to learn through the research of other Israelites.

Readability on a scale of 1-10.

I would give this book a 3.5 in readability. This book is a very easy however it is loaded with lots of history which for some can be less exciting to read. You will need to focus in order to absorb all of the information.

Book Overview

The title of the book truly explains its premise. This book goes through scripture and extensive scientific research, siting respected scientists and historians to prove that the Bible is primarily the historical book of African Americans.

Favorite points & quotes

The latter part of the book, chapters 6-10 REALLY drove home the message of this book for me. The response of many when approaching the topic of a black presence in scripture is “why does it matter” and “why and who would hide this from us”, both of which Dr. Williams answered flawlessly.

Why would someone hide this from us?

Quote on page 106: “Painting the biblical Hebrews white from black was necessary for founding and maintaining the white male supremacy system.

Quote on page 110: “The white male supremacy system’s doctrine also formed the hermeneutical framework that gave rise to a biblical theology that undergirds its premise. When the entire bible is viewed through a racist hermeneutic, it is easy to depict the biblical heroes as white and interpret Ham’s curse as turning him black and subjecting him; thus all black people to eternal servitude to his white brothers, regardless of the absurdity of such a depiction.

Quote on page 114: ” The most important theological image in the white male supremacy system is that of white Jesus.

“The entire theology of white male supremacy revolves around the whiteness of Jesus . If Jesus’ whiteness were eliminated, the theological foundation of the white male supremacy system would be threatened.”

“The teachings of Jesus are of no consequence in the white male supremacy system; it is his whiteness that holds all the significance.”

Why does it matter?

Quote on page 127: “For African-Americans to discount the historicity of Jesus serves the agenda of the white male supremacy system. Their manipulative tactics offer at least three ways to deal with Jesus: to accept Him as a white man, (as already discussed) or to deny He ever existed, or to contend that His color does not matter.”

Quote on page 130: “to deny the historicity of Jesus is to contradict the reality that God chose to use a black man through whom to reveal God’s self to the world. Should the African-American community universally accept this historical reality, it would endow this community with supernatural spiritual and psychological power. Therefore if the white male supremacy system cannot convince the black community that Jesus is a white man, it would prefer that black people believe Jesus never existed at all.

Quote on page 138/139:

“This argument is designed to keep people’s minds off the true racial features of Jesus while this culture incessantly bombards us with images of white Jesus. While Jesus was used as the cornerstone for the construction of American racism.”

“It is the blackness of Christ that negates the cultural sanctioning the institutionalized oppression of people of color.”

Overall book review on a scale of 1-10.

I give this book a strong 9/10. It is loaded with so much information, it’s is a phenomenal way to start the discussion IN CHURCH about biblical black history.

Why you should read this book.

My enthusiasm for you to read this book is summed up in a quote page 122:

The study of true, authentic and unadulterated history is a game-changer. It is the most important subject in any academic curriculum. History helps students to understand who they are, how they got there and why.
